Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts

This beautiful service of the Serbian Orthodox Church is available to us during Lent. At our St. Sava Cathedral, it is served on Wednesday mornings and Friday evenings. It is not a Divine Liturgy, but the faithful can commune because the Divine Gifts were "presanctified" on the previous Sunday, during the Divine Liturgy. In this way, the church offers us all more opportunities to take Holy Communion. The service is beautiful, with readings from the Psalms and lovely hymns that are moving and spiritual in their beauty. The Stevan Sijacki choir sings responses during the Friday service. To commune on a Friday evening, you may eat lightly in the morning and fast the rest of the day. You may discover a meaningful addition to your preparation for Easter by attending one of these liturgies. They begin at

6:30 pm.
